The RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) as per the European Union Directive 2002/95/EC for Electrical and Electronic Equipment will be enforced throughout the European Union (EU) from 1st July 2006. Its objective is to restrict the use of hazardous substances in the electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). Although RoHS Directive is the directive of the EU, manufacturers of EEE outside EU must comply with this legislation if the EEE they have produced is to be exported to and used in the EU member states.

The directive is applied to the EEE stipulated in the Annex IA of WEEE Directive, also known as Directive 2002/96/EC that includes:

•  Household appliances

•  IT and telecommunication equipment

•  Consumer equipment

•  Lighting equipment

•  Electrical and electronic tools (except large-scale stationary industrial tools)

•  Toy, leisure and sports equipment

•  Automatic dispensers

•  Electrical and electronic tools (except large-scale stationary industrial tools)

ACL offers testing and provide guidance in all the 6 hazardous substances (Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Chromium Hexavalent, Polybrominated Biphenyls and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers) in the electrical and electronic equipment (EEE).
