Minerals are essential to healthy diet and are commonly found in food products either in its natural forms or as additives. However, minerals use as additives are subjected to the statutory conformity. Some minerals such as Iron and Calcium are mandatory to be stated in the nutrition fact labeling.
Certain heavy metals in food products pose a serious health hazard due to its inherent toxicity. Ministry of Health Malaysia has stipulated maximum permitted limits for each and individual heavy metal under the Food Regulations.
